Born in 1960, Wissam Boustany’s musical journey of fifty years has taken him from flute-soloist to conductor. He has collaborated with numerous composers and conductors over the span of his career. An enthusiastic pedagogue, Wissam has distilled his approach to performing, practicing, teaching and living into what has become known as his ‘Method Called Love’… the inspirational source for empowering students to cultivate a natural, personal, deeply expressive and consistent approach to making music.
The year 2015 was a turning point for Wissam when he was invited to conduct Poulenc’s Piano Concerto ‘Aubade’ during a residency at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne…this experience proved to be profound and life-changing for Wissam, after which he resolved to develop his conducting, embarking on two years of conducting lessons in France and Spain under the mentorship of the eminent Maestro George Pehlivanian.
April 2018 saw another milestone with the inaugural tour of Wissam’s new orchestra, the Pro Youth Philharmonia (PYP), conceived as a professional youth orchestra for emerging musicians aged 22-32 and adopting Wissam’s ‘Method Called Love’ as its core ethos and approach to rehearsing, performing and educational outreach.
Sadly PYP was not able to survive the pandemic but since then Wissam has begun forging new partnerships and conducted the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time in February 2022.
Looking forward, Wissam has created the foundations for his guest conducting projects into the future, as represented by Inner Journeys, creating a fertile environment for inspired rehearsals and music-making with orchestras, as well as a reinventing the format for orchestral concerts and audience engagement.
